A Prague Spring .....

Arrived back from our trip to Prague in the early hours of Saturday morning. Janet and I have had a lovely five days in the city, saw the sights, found a lovely coffee house, rediscovered caipirinha, stayed in a beautiful little hotel with the best bath in the world, ate too many bagels, told the astronomical time in Old Town Square,

had lots of fish, took a long tram ride,

walked miles and miles, went on a bus to see where the Vltava River meets the Elbe and then came straight back, saw some good art, had snow and watched Friends in Czech.

Lots of dog signs over there, which has given me the idea to create an album of street signs with dogs in. What can I say - I was missing Otis.

One of the best things we saw was the Frank Gehry building (of Guggenheim Bilbao fame) called the Dancing House. As you can see, it's this weird asymmetrical shape that overlooks the river and one of the bridges. There was a really nice little cafe on the ground floor, which was good since it's a private office block and architecture fans have no access.

Also visited the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Veletrzni Palac, or Trade Fair Palace, which was a huge modernist block from the communist years, but which held a good collection, including a temporary show of impressionist stuff from France, including Braque (yeah!!) Picasso (woohoo!!) Cezanne (cool!!) Rodin (awesome!!) Derain & Vlamminck (savage!!) & Bonnard (good!!). Like meeting some old friends. Didn't have time to explore further, but very enjoyable anyway.
