Cafe Culture

When I was married (an unbelievable 13 years ago!!!) I never went out for coffee, tea or anything like that - only dinner. Since then however, and with Janet's encouragement, I have been making up for lost time.

After our weekend walks, we have a series of cafes and tearooms that we often go to, depending on what part of the countryside we have been exploring. Sounds a bit genteel, but we love it. They are: DeLieto's in Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne - Pevensey Castle Tearooms - Badger's Tearooms in Alfriston - The Cricketer's Arms in Berwick - Bodiam Castle Tearooms - Hayden's in Rye High Street and Littlington Tearooms. They all have their own respective merits, many of which have now been severely curtailed, due to my current health kick eg. beer, coffee, cake, scones etc. so now, when we go to one of them, instead of that warm, full, just-eaten feeling, I get a huge rush of self-righteousness, which is not so bad either.

Have been practising mbira, and can't believe how complex it seems at the moment. I got all that re-tuning sorted out, and can now play along with some of the youtube clips. For all those musos out there, I tuned it down to a middle G. I say play along - I mean play alternate or even every 3rd or 4th notes - but at least the ones I do play are now in tune.

Nice drink this eve at the Hare & Hounds in Bidborough with Mark & Cristiana, who are just back from Trinidad. Returned their chain-saw, which I had been using in the garden to chop logs, trim leylandii etc etc.

Really beginning to look forward to Prague now - will just be nice to be somewhere different.
