First BBQ of the year!!

Really nice weekend - house warming in Lewes at our friends Robin & Rega's new place - took food, drink and drums to share, and re-discovered the m'bira, or sanza, depending where you are from.

Robin is a Kora player and has no end of other ethnic instruments he has made or commissioned. The m'bira, or thumb piano as it's more commonly known this side of the pacific is a great instrument with a great sound, amplified to perfection by sticking it on the uncarpeted floorboards. What a noise from such a little thing. We all had a go on it, and I ended up using it to accompany kora and violin, an interesting combination.

Also at the party were friends Selena and Mike, with their kids Tally & Iggy and we decided to celebrate the coming of Spring with a BBQ on Herbrand Walk the next day. Their friends Mary Louise and Maurizio turned up as well with their little girl Carla and much fun, food and wine was had on the beach by the fire until dark. In the photo above, Maurizio, Mike, Tally, Selena.

Cooking time!!

Not such good news was that my brother in Cincinnati was taken into hospital to have an emergency triple heart bypass operation, and is still a bit up in the air, and also that our good drummie friend Ed was in hospital with Pancreitis. I'm now very seriously on a health kick!!
