Otis, our beautiful dog, died. He was only 5 years old and evidently ate or drank something poisonous. I won't go into detail about what happened as it was all too sad and grim, but suffice to say within 24 hours, he went from being fit healthy and bouncing around to dead at the vet's. They did all they could for him, but held out little hope - I guess they see this kind of thing all the time, so they know when an animal's time is up. But it was deeply upsetting for J and me.
He really was a great dog, a wonderful character, a member of the family. Everyone who met him, even those who didn't really like dogs, loved him. So he has left a huge gap in our lives.
We have to look forward now, and focus on all the good things we have, and remember Otis as a great friend who loved us as we loved him.

Hi. I'm sorry this happened.
Nothing I say here can possibly help you or your situation, but I am thinking of you and your loss.
When I emigrated I rehomed my dogs and miss them dearly. One didn't take to his new home very well, and eventually he had to be taken to the vet. It's a long story that I will spare you from. Needless to say, I think about him a lot, and know I always will.
Some people, those who don't have pets, undervalue how pets can contribute to, and sometimes make, a family.
Take time to mourn and remember. I hope everything else falls into place. x
Wow, thanks Star Child for your kind words and support and for taking time to comment.
Otis was our very dear friend, and certainly did make our lives more colourful, interesting and full of unconditional love.
You clearly understand what this has been like - it must have made the decision for you to emigrate even more difficult and poignant.
We are lucky enough to have good friends who understood how special he was, and can rally round at this difficult time. I hope you had the same.
We will always remember Otis, but guess we will be hearing the patter of tiny paws sometime in Spring.
Kind regards and Happy Christmas. Simon x
