Welcome!

Hi folks - here's the first post of my new blog, simon spare's blog. I was going to (and did, for a bit) call it beulahworld - Beulah means "the plains of heaven" and it seemed kind of appropriate - just kidding. Actually, I used to live in Beulah Road in Tunbridge Wells (Kent, UK, Europe, The World etc etc) and the name just stuck in my mind. But then decided something a little less lyrical would be a good idea.

I've been re-reading all the depressing crap in my previous pathetic and short-lived attempt at writing a blog, 'cos yes, 2008 has been a difficult year, but blimey.... No wonder nobody could be bothered to read it - even I got fed up.

Anyway, I have determined that beulahworld is going to be relentlessly upbeat, talking about art, music and maybe even my inner world, which I think exists, but have yet to see any compelling evidence. I will also be including shameless advertising for my own artworks, exhibitions, drumming gigs and so on, so be warned. And my dog Otis, who will be posting on a regular basis. Lifted this from my previous blog, cos it sums him up:

"Otis (that's his name - he's got a great singing voice, just like Otis Redding) is a dog. He's half springer spaniel, and half chocolate labrador, so he's moderately sized but strong, brown but has a white flash on his chest, boisterous but controllable, springs in long grass but loves to swim, big ears big feet. Good natured, but has a big bark. We like each other.

Wanted a dog all my life, and when I was 45, decided I had waited long enough. Went to see the puppies (seven 1 week old tubes of brown, blind fur) just for fun, and came away £300 lighter. Hard work to begin with but now he's just turned three, he's much easier - the only thing he can't do is walk on the lead without pulling like a horse, but it's a small price to pay.

Like me, Otis sleeps well, and doesn't wake us up in the morning - 'cos he's shut in the kitchen - he likes his bed as much as I do (mine, not his!!), but because I have to be at work by 8.30am, we have to get up at 6.30 sometimes. When I go into the kitchen, we look at each other as if to say "why??", he stretches and we're off for the first walk of the day. On this walk we'll normally meet some of his friends, Buster the westie, Tia (as in Maria) the sexy (Otis thinks) chocolate lab bitch, the two snarling cockers, the two snarling terriers, the snarling great dane, the other snarling terrier and his snarling collie friend. There's a lot of snarling first thing in Battle - guess they don't sleep so well."

Says it all really. More later.
